Covina : Sister City Art Dedicated
A 7 1/2-ton stone replica of an Olmec Indian sculpture was dedicated Wednesday at the Covina Police Department.
The head was a gift from the Mexican state of Veracruz to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Covina’s Sister City program with the city of Xalapa, Veracruz.
Jim Locke, president of the Covina Sister City Assn., said the sculpture is the only stone replica of an Olmec head in the United States. The Olmecs were the earliest culture in North America, he said.
