Former Hart Standout McMullen to Audition for NBA’s Suns
Former Hart High and College of the Canyons basketball player Mitch McMullen will continue his quest for a spot in the National Basketball Assn. by participating in the Phoenix Suns’ camp for rookies and free agents from July 19-21, the team announced Saturday.
This is the second consecutive summer McMullen, a 6-foot-10 center, has sought to hook on with an NBA team. After completing his eligibility with San Diego State in 1989, he was bypassed in the NBA draft, but attended Seattle SuperSonics and Denver Nuggets summer camps and was a member of the Lakers’ team in the Southern California Summer Pro Basketball League.
Last fall, McMullen signed with the Atlanta Hawks, but was released during the final cut before the start of the regular season. He then briefly played for the now-defunct Santa Barbara Islanders of the Continental Basketball Assn.
Samuel Lagana has been hired as the director of athletic marketing and promotions at Cal State Northridge.
Lagana is a 1985 graduate of Loyola Marymount.
Lagana, who was a play-by-play announcer for Continental-American Cable System’s broadcasts of Loyola sporting events, also will work as public address announcer at a variety of Northridge sporting events.
A field hockey camp for boys and girls aged 9-14 will be held July 23-27 at Monte Vista School in Camarillo.
The camp, sponsored by the Ventura County Field Hockey Assn., runs from 9 a.m. to noon.
