Debate Over Revitalization of Olvera Street

Olvera Street is a symbol of the unity and determination of Los Angeles’ founders to work together through adversity in pursuit of a common objective.

In that spirit, let us put aside division and support the Olvera Street restoration plan. The street belongs to the entire community, which includes a much broader constituency than the individuals whose voices are raised against the proposal. Rededicating ourselves to the restoration of Olvera Street cannot represent the victory of one ethnic group over another. Instead, it celebrates our commitment to preserve part of Los Angeles’ history for generations to come.
