Frank S. Endicott; Created Job Report for College Graduates

Frank S. Endicott, 85, creator of the annual Endicott Report about the employment climate for graduating college students. Endicott, the former director of placement at Northwestern University, began surveying the job climate in 1945. His report, now known as the Lindquist-Endicott Report, is a nationally recognized survey of job opportunities and salaries for college graduates. Endicott authored a number of job-related books including “How to Plan for College,” “Vocational Planning” and “A Parents’ Guide to College.” He recommended that students use a “shotgun” rather than a “rifle” approach on the job hunt. “Many persons are more likely to secure the best job if they prepare for several related types of work, rather than aiming at only one specific job,” he advised as long ago as 1947. Endicott joined Northwestern in 1935 and became director of placement in 1942. He retired in 1974. In Evanston, Ill., on June 8.
