El Segundo Awards Contract on Library
The El Segundo City Council on Tuesday awarded a $3-million contract for work that will more than double the size of the public library at 111 W. Mariposa Ave. The work, by P. W. Construction Inc., includes renovation of the existing 13,600-square-foot library, construction of a 15,600-square-foot addition and landscaping of the library grounds.
According to officials, the project will expand the size of the reference area, the children’s library and the library book stacks. A community meeting room will also be provided.
Work is to begin in June and will take 18 months to complete.
Plans for expanding the library date back to 1983, when a study concluded that the existing facility was overcrowded.
