Japan Forestry Talks End Inconclusively: U.S.-Japan talks on forestry products, one of three areas in which the United States has threatened to retaliate if Japan does not remove import restrictions, ended inconclusively despite a three-day extension. U.S. negotiators reported “significant progress,” however, and said they hoped to resolve the dispute in the next round of talks. They said these will take place “soon,” possibly as early as next week. Two other trade disputes over which the United States had threatened to retaliate, involving supercomputers and satellites, have been resolved in the past two weeks.
