Sutton (64), Peoples (66) on Top
THE WOODLANDS, Tex. — Hal Sutton, who has slumped the past month, shot an eight-under-par 64, one stroke off the course record, to tie David Peoples for the second-round lead in the Independent Insurance Agent Open Saturday.
Sutton’s best round of the year gave him a 133 total--11-under par for the tournament--for 36 holes, the same as Peoples, who shot a second-round 66.
Peoples and Sutton, who missed three of the last four cuts, held a three-shot lead on the par-72 TPC course at The Woodlands Country Club over four players tied at 136--Fred Couples, Corey Pavin, Jay Haas and Scott Simpson.
Seve Ballesteros headed a group of 10 players at 137, including Tommy Armour III, who made a hole in one on the 234-yard eighth hole with a five-iron. P.H. Horgan III, the first-round leader with a 66, shot a 77 for a 143 total.
