Saugus Speedway to Embark on Its 51st Campaign
The green flag will drop tonight on Saugus Speedway’s 51st season of stock-car racing as NASCAR Hobby Stock oval and figure-eight events highlight today’s program beginning at 7.
Next Saturday, the season’s official opening night will feature Saugus’ front-line NASCAR Sportsman division as well as Street Stock oval and figure-eight events on the one-third mile oval.
Included on tonight’s agenda are Jalopies, Mini Stock Racing Assn. Mini Stocks and the traditional last-Saturday-of-the-month destruction derby.
The 65 Sportsman, 71 Street Stock and 28 Hobby Stock vehicles registered this season compose the largest roster in the track’s history.
The NASCAR All-American Challenge Series Southwest Tour will make stops at the speedway May 5 and Sept. 8. In addition, the NASCAR Winston West 200, the second consecutive Winston West event at Saugus after a 12-year absence, is scheduled for June 16.
Tonight will mark the start of a six-month, 28-night season.
