Japan’s Broadest Trade Measure Back in Black

TOKYO — Japan posted a $4.91-billion surplus in its broadest measure of trade in February, moving back into the black after registering in January its first deficit in six years, the Finance Ministry reported Friday.
Finance Ministry officials said the current account, which measures merchandise and service trade, returned to a surplus in February after a stunning $636-million deficit in January.
The latest surplus was 32.4% lower than its $7.26-billion level in February, 1989.
