THE SIDELINES : Sean Higgins to Enter NBA Draft
Michigan junior Sean Higgins of Los Angeles said he will declare himself eligible for the NBA draft in June.
Higgins told teammates of his decision Sunday after the defending champion Wolverines lost 149-115 to Loyola Marymount in the second round of the NCAA tournament. He was not with the team when the Wolverines boarded a plane to return to campus Sunday evening.
Higgins, who fouled out of the game after scoring 15 points, said he was going to his mother’s house in Los Angeles.
A stress fracture he suffered in his left foot in January in a game against Purdue caused him to miss four weeks and five games. Higgins averaged 14.1 points per game in the 1989-90 regular season.
Higgins hinted earlier this year that he planned to leave school to play professionally.
“I’ve done what I’ve come here to do. That’s to win an NCAA championship,” Higgins said when asked whether he would enter the draft this year.
