Couple Indicted in Case of Missing Glendale Man
A federal grand jury in Las Vegas has indicted a couple in connection with the disappearance of a retired Glendale banking accountant.
Being held without bail in a Clark County, Nev., jail are Stanley Alan Hershey, 46, and Jan Vicki Fine, 37.
They were indicted late Thursday on charges of conspiracy, illegal use of a bank card and transportation of a stolen vehicle across state lines, in connection with the disappearance of Gordon T. Johnson, 62, a former employee of a subsidiary of Glendale Federal Bank.
The man and woman were arrested March 1 in Las Vegas by FBI agents after they were found with a four-wheel drive Suzuki owned by Johnson, according to court records.
They also are accused of withdrawing thousands of dollars from Johnson’s bank account.
Johnson, who retired last April as an accountant for Glenfed Development in Encino, has not been heard from since he telephoned relatives Oct. 14 to tell them he was leaving Bend, Ore., to visit a friend in Los Angeles.
Johnson, a bachelor, had sold his Glendale home of 27 years and had bought a $219,000 motor home and the Suzuki.
The 40-foot motor home was found Jan. 29, parked at a trailer vacation resort just outside Phoenix in a space Hershey had rented, records show.
However, theft of the motor home is not included in the federal indictment, which only applies to vehicles moved across state lines.
Federal and local agents in several states are still investigating Johnson’s disappearance.
