Long-Range Shots by Valdez Lift Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly Pomona reserve guard Serenda Valdez was inserted in the lineup early in the game because of her outside-shooting ability and responded with a career-high 23 points in a 67-64 victory over North Dakota in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball quarterfinals Friday night at Pomona.
Valdez finished with seven three-pointers in 18 attempts.
The victory improved Pomona’s record to 28-3 and advanced the second-ranked Broncos into the Division II final four for the second consecutive season.
Pomona went ahead to stay on a layup by Niki Bracken for a 65-64 lead with 50 seconds to play.
