Cal Poly Pomona Faces North Dakota
The Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team will be in familiar territory, when it plays host to North Dakota in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals at 7:30 tonight at Pomona’s Kellogg Gymnasium.
Pomona, ranked No. 2 in Division II with a 27-3 record, will be playing in the Division II quarterfinals for the eighth time in nine seasons. The Broncos will also be trying for their second consecutive berth in the division’s final four.
Both teams will take long winning streaks into the game. Pomoma has won 20 games in a row and North Dakota 14.
Pomona, which has won three Division II titles and finished second three times in nine seasons in the division, has been led by All American center Niki Bracken and forward Marcine Edmonds. Bracken averages 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds and Edmonds 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds.
North Dakota, which also has a 27-3 record and is ranked No. 4, has relied on the outside shooting of guards Durene Heisler and Whitney Meier, each of who averages better than 18 points.
The winner will advance to the final four March 23 and 24 at a site to be announced Sunday.
