School Bus Driver Pleads Guilty to DUI, Perjury
A school bus driver with five previous drunk-driving convictions who was intoxicated in January when he arrived to pick up a busload of children at Lanai elementary school in Encino pleaded guilty on Thursday to drunk driving and perjury charges.
Harold Keith Lone, 40, entered the plea in Van Nuys Municipal Court to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of perjury for using an alias to secure a driver’s license and get a job as a school bus driver with Laidlaw Transit Co.
Prosecutors alleged that Lone used the name Harold Keith Holmes to hide his lengthy criminal record, which included arrests for robbery, burglary and auto theft.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Aviva K. Bobb said Lone is likely to be sentenced to two years in jail at an April 30 hearing.
