SHORT TAKES : Jackson Benefit Raises $11,000

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Pop singer Janet Jackson’s benefit concert raised only $11,000 for charities because expenses ate up most of the proceeds, organizers said.
The $11,000 was about 15% of the $76,000 gross and will be split between a soup kitchen and food bank that serve the homeless, said Doug Clouse, a spokesman for Ogden Allied Presents, which manages the Pensacola Civic Center. Other charities will get nothing, he said.
“The rest of the money went for expenses for the show: labor, staff, putting the tickets on sale,” Clouse said Wednesday.
