Man Found Slain; 2 Gang Suspects Arrested
A man was found bludgeoned to death Monday in his Los Feliz apartment and police arrested two suspects, but one escaped, authorities said.
Officers went to the man’s apartment in the 4400 block of Ambrose Avenue shortly after 10 a.m. after stopping two suspects carrying identification with the victim’s address, Detective Sam Jacobellis said. Anti-gang officers had stopped the car in which they were riding in a probe of gang activity.
The victim’s identity was not immediately released. He was believed to be in his 50s.
Suspected gang members Herman Gonzalez, 27, and Robert Luna, 30, were arrested and booked on suspicion of murder at the Northeast Division station. But when detectives went to a holding area of the station to interview Gonzalez about 12:30 p.m., they found he had escaped, police said. Details of his escape were not immediately clear.
