HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Late Surge Lifts RBV Past Poway
Rancho Buena Vista got hot in the fourth quarter and took advantage of numerous Poway turnovers to score a 63-57 upset over the county’s seventh-ranked team at Poway Wednesday night.
RBV (8-8, 5-2) outscored Poway, 24-10, in the fourth quarter to win for the sixth time in the past seven games.
Brad Grubaugh led the Longhorns with 20 points, and Darryl Parker added 17.
Poway (12-4, 3-4) got into trouble at the foul line, making only six of 18 free throws.
In other Palomar League games:
Mt. Carmel 117, Vista 80--For the second consecutive week, top-ranked Mt. Carmel (14-3, 7-0) scored more than 100 points in beating a Palomar League opponent. Last week, the Sundevils routed Orange Glen, 132-58.
Shane Knight and Mike Graves led Mt. Carmel with 24 points each against Vista (4-11, 1-6).
San Dieguito 77, Orange Glen 49--Sean Howard scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead San Dieguito (8-9, 3-4) at home. Orange Glen is 0-14 and 0-7.
Torrey Pines 46, Fallbrook 43--Third-ranked Torrey Pines built a 26-17 halftime lead and held on for the victory at Fallbrook. Chris Stevens scored 16 points for Torrey Pines (18-2, 6-1). Eric Enockson led Fallbrook (13-6, 4-3) with 11 points.
Avocado League
San Pasqual 73, Ramona 45--San Pasqual switched to a zone press in the second half and pulled away for the victory at home. Erik Meek scored 25 points to lead No. 9 San Pasqual (12-5, 5-1). Alfonso de La Nuez scored 24 points to lead Ramona (10-4, 3-3).
El Camino 88, Carlsbad 64--Tenth-ranked El Camino (13-5, 6-0) outscored Carlsbad, 31-13, in the first quarter and rolled to the victory at home. Dee Boyer had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead six El Camino players scoring in double figures. Carlsbad is 5-11, 2-4.
Metro Conference
Bonita Vista 88, Southwest 80--Bonita Vista (13-4, 7-2) had five players score in double figures, led by Rope Perry’s 20 points. Devin Patterson scored 31 to lead Southwest (7-10, 3-6).
Montgomery 58, Mar Vista 57--Montgomery outscored Mar Vista, 17-9, in the third quarter to erase a 28-25 halftime deficit in the victory at home. George Scott scored 21 points for Montgomery (3-14, 1-8). Jim Gruber had 15 points for Mar Vista (2-17, 1-8).
