Doug Hartsfield hit two of three-point shots in the fourth overtime Wednesday night to help Mississippi State defeat Mississippi, 104-102, in a Southeastern Conference game.

Hartsfield had a three-pointer in a seven-point run that gave the Bulldogs a 97-90 lead with 2:43 left in the fourth overtime. But his three-pointer from the top of the key with 16 seconds to play proved to be the winner, giving Mississippi State a 104-100 lead.

Mississippi State improved to 10-6 overall and 3-5 in the SEC; Mississippi fell to 6-10 and 3-4.

Tony Watts came off the bench to score a career-high 29 points to lead Mississippi State, Cameron Burns added 24, and Greg Carter and Todd Merritt 18 each. Hartsfield finished with eight points.

Gerald Glass led Mississippi, which lost leads in the first three overtimes, with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Harvell added 20 and Tim Jumper 16.

Glass’ 23-footer with 10 seconds to play in regulation sent the game into overtime at 68-68. Mississippi State failed to get off a final shot.

Even though Mississippi State built a seven-point margin in the fourth overtime, Harvell nearly rallied the Rebels single-handedly, scoring 10 points in the period. Patrick Eddie’s rebound basket pulled the Rebels within a basket with five seconds to play, but Watts got the inbound pass and dribbled out the final seconds.
