SEA VIEW LEAGUE ROUNDUP : Estancia Wins With 20-4 Run in 4th Quarter
Trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, Estancia High School rallied to defeat Corona del Mar, 55-49, in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Wednesday night at Corona del Mar.
Augustin Heredia and Matt Fuerbringer each had eight points as the Eagles outscored the Sea Kings, 20-4, in the fourth quarter.
The turnaround came after Corona del Mar’s 11-2 run to end the third quarter. Estancia’s Paul McDaniel fouled Mark Flint and then was called for a technical in the final seconds of the quarter. After Flint made three of four free throws the Sea Kings led, 45-35.
But Estancia (12-7 overall, 3-2 in the league) went on a run of its own, outscoring Corona del Mar, 13-2, to take a 48-47 lead with about two minutes remaining. CdM is 13-6, 4-1.
Heredia, the county leader in free throw percentage at 91%, finished with 11 of 15 free throws and had a game-high 23 points.
Jeff Jackson scored 17 for Corona del Mar but was limited to one free throw in the fourth quarter.
