WORLD IN BRIEF : KASHMIR : Police Go on Strike to Back Separatists

Hundreds of Kashmiri police officers went on strike for five hours in Srinagar to support the demands of Muslim separatists that Indian army troops called in to quell violence leave Jammu and Kashmir state. The strike was called off after the state’s top police officer spoke to the police. At least 57 people, most of them protesters, have been killed since a round-the-clock curfew was imposed Saturday on Srinagar and surrounding towns.
