* Rocket Romance: Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of former President Dwight Eisenhower, said Friday she will marry leading Soviet rocket scientist and political reformer Roald Z. Sagdeev. They will be wed in a Feb. 9 civil ceremony in Moscow and then will be “blessed” at a religious ceremony at the U.S. Embassy there, Sagdeev told reporters by phone. Sagdeev, a Volga Tatar, said he has “no religious assignment.” Eisenhower is a Protestant. The couple will maintain two homes, in Washington and Moscow. Eisenhower, 38, has three school-age children by a previous marriage. Sagdeev, 57, has two grown children.

* Truffle Trouble: Sharp-nosed French detectives, investigating a massive increase in purchases of walnut dye, have uncovered a lucrative traffic in truffles, one of France’s most expensive culinary delights. Police in southwest France said the ring bought white truffles in Italy at about $70 a kilo (2.2 pounds) and stained them with walnut dye to pass them off as black truffles, which fetch 10 times that price. The rare black truffle is a fungus that grows under oaks and is found by sows specially trained to sniff it out. The fraud was masterminded by a group of manufacturers of foie gras--goose or duck liver that is often studded with thin slices of truffle.

* Landry Sings: If it was good enough for former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill to rise out of a suitcase in a TV ad and promote Quality International hotels, then it’s good enough for former Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry, who now also has a 30-second commercial. Landry rises out of a suitcase chock full of his trademark gray felt hats and, while wearing one, makes his pitch for the inns. Then he pulls out a guitar and, in a voice that will be no threat to Willie Nelson, sings, “Mama, don’t let your babies grow up to be (pause) Redskins. . . .”
