Toys R Us Posts 22.7% Gain in Holiday Sales: Toys R Us Inc. said its sales jumped 22.7% to $2.02 billion during the eight-week Christmas season. Nintendo video games, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures, Barbie and Batman products were particularly popular. The company’s strong sales results were posted despite a generally weaker toy industry. The world’s largest toy specialty retailing chain, which makes almost half its sales in the eight weeks leading up to Dec. 24, said revenue was up 10% on a same-store basis. In the year-ago period, Paramus, N.J.-based Toys R Us posted sales of $1.65 billion.
