No one has seriously proved that the Salvadoran rebel weapons come from Nicaragua; the State Department can only repeat the fact that they are mostly AK-47s.
However, those were the very type of weapons Col. Oliver North acquired through the Czechs for the Contras to use.
Perhaps there is an even greater irony afoot if the impoverished Contras’ weapons are now being sold to Honduran gun-runners who are in turn selling them to the rebels.
