LA HABRA : Children’s Museum Opens New Addition
A new, 8,000-square-foot addition has opened at the Children’s Museum at La Habra.
New features include a science station which demonstrates electricity, magnetism, patterns, sound, mechanics, images and reflections. One attraction allows visitors to create drawings--”They stand in line for that,” museum director Catherine Michaels said. She added that she expects the museum to attract 200,000 visitors by year’s end.
Another new feature is the preschool play park. Michaels said mothers and toddlers are spending up to half a day in the area, which features toys, equipment and activities planned for children to age 5.
“Mothers find this a real comfortable place to be. They can chat with each other while the children play for hours,” she said.
Admission is $1.50 for children and senior citizens and $2 for adults. Museum members and children under 2 are admitted free. The museum is at 301 S. Euclid Street and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The museum provides tours for groups of 10 or more, but reservations are required. Other activities at the facility include birthday parties and rotating exhibits.
A display of Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese arts and crafts, clothing, food, toys and games will be displayed between Jan. 15 and March 24.
A Children’s Arts Festival will be held April 9 through June 2. This display will focus on Mexican culture and will include art workshops, Michaels said.
