Brent Ashton’s goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation Wednesday night gave the Winnipeg Jets a 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers at Winnipeg, Canada.

Ashton took a pass from Dale Hawerchuk, swung around defenseman James Patrick and beat goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck through the pads with a backhander to knock the Jets back to .500.

“We’re a skating team and we talked about that between the second and third (periods). We came out skating and that’s the way we play our best hockey,” Ashton said.
