A summary of Southern California-related business litigation developments during the week of Nov. 20.
Arco, State Argue Offshore Drilling Case: Atlantic Richfield Co. and the state of California presented arguments Tuesday and Wednesday before Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Leon Savitch over whether the oil company’s rights were violated when a development plan was rejected by the State Lands Commission in 1987. The state contends that it simply rejected a specific plan, but Arco said the denial was permanent since the construction of any additional oil drilling platforms would be rejected on environmental grounds. Oral arguments were completed and the case was taken under submission, with Savitch expected to rule at a later date. (Filed Sept. 30, 1987, Case No. C663010)
