DANA POINT : Mother Pushes for Earthquake Forums
Susan Lambert, a secretary and mother of two, said she became earthquake conscious after the recent disaster in the San Francisco Bay area. Now she is trying to get all neighborhood groups in the Dana Point area to have forums on earthquake preparedness.
To get the ball rolling, Lambert has arranged for a forum next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the complex where she lives, the 196-unit Harbor Pointe Apartments, 32758 Street of the Golden Lantern. The session, which is free and open to all Harbor Pointe residents, will feature city, county and school district officials who will give earthquake-survival pointers and answer questions.
“I began asking questions after the San Francisco earthquake about how my children would fare in their schools and in out-of-school programs and things like that,” Lambert said. “And I thought if I have questions like these, I bet a lot of other people do also.”
Lambert said the earthquake-preparedness forum next Tuesday will give practical information on such things as food and water storage, what radio station to monitor after an earthquake, and where disaster aid may be obtained.
She said she hopes the forum concept will be picked up by other community groups and spread throughout the area. “Things like this can help prevent panicking in case of an earthquake,” she said.
