NATION : 727 Loses Engine, Lands Safely

GRAPEVINE, Tex. — An engine on a Delta Air Lines jet with 100 people aboard broke apart shortly after takeoff from Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport but the plane returned to the field without injuries, a company official said.
Parts spewed from one of the Boeing 727’s three Pratt & Whitney engines on Flight 691 en route to Denver just after takeoff at 7:19 p.m. Sunday, Delta spokeswoman Jackie Pate said today in Atlanta.
