SAN DIEGO SPORTS ET CETERA : Alberts Has Two Goals, Assist as UCSD Beats Biola in Soccer

Mike Alberts scored two goals and had one assist in UC San Diego’s 3-1 men’s soccer victory over Biola at UCSD’s North Campus Stadium Wednesday. Craig Hyde scored the other goal for UCSD (10-5-3). Biola dropped to 7-7-5.

U.S. International defeated visiting Point Loma Nazarene, 6-1. USIU (3-15) led, 4-0, at halftime and was up, 6-0, when Steve Cokkinis scored for Point Loma Nazarene (5-6-4) with eight minutes remaining. Ray Taila scored two goals for USIU.

James Jessel has been named general manager for the San Diego Nomads’ 1990 season. The Nomads are members of the Western Soccer League.

Jessel graduated from UC San Diego in 1986 and worked with the San Diego Sockers for two season. Last year, he was associated with minor league baseball in the New York-Pennsylvania League.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The University of San Diego lost to host Cal State Fullerton, 15-11, 15-12, 15-11, in a nonconference match. Heather Dalley led USD (1-19) with eight kills. Cal State Fullerton is 7-13.
