Community College : Rhone’s Aces Help Saddleback in Win

Cyndi Rhone had 10 service aces, including six in a row in the second game, to lead the Saddleback women’s volleyball team to a 15-6, 15-3, 15-7, Orange Empire Conference victory over host Cypress Wednesday.

Rhone and Heather Mead, who had 14 assists, had seven kills apiece for Saddleback (4-0 overall, 1-0 in conference).

Kristen Coombs had 10 digs for Cypress (3-5, 0-2).

In other Orange Empire volleyball games:

Golden West 3, Orange Coast 1--Maureen Flannigan had 10 kills to lead host Golden West to its 30th consecutive conference victory, 15-4, 15-3, 15-7. Joli Eberhart and Erin Holleman each had seven kills and Stacia Allen had 31 assists for Golden West (4-2, 2-0).

Riverside 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Host Riverside swept, 15-7, 15-9, 15-11, to drop Rancho Santiago to 0-5 overall, 0-1 in conference.

In nonconference wrestling:

Golden West 22, Moorpark 22--In the 190-pound division, Phil Meyer defeated Carson Woolert, 9-2, for host Golden West. Heavyweight Juan Tirado defeated David Mitchell, 8-2, in the final match. If Tirado had scored one more takedown, Golden West (0-3-1) would have won.
