Roundup : Golden West Rolls to Water Polo Victory
Henry Rabello scored six goals to help Golden West to an 18-9 victory over Fullerton in a South Coast Conference water polo match Friday at Fullerton.
Golden West outscored Fullerton, 8-2, in the first quarter. The Rustlers led, 12-5, at the half and 16-6 after three quarters.
Morgan Courtney added four goals and Pono Faulkner two for Golden West (15-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play).
In Orange Empire Conference water polo:
Saddleback 11, Palomar 10--Tino Perone scored four goals, and Dave Becker and Omar Ward scored two goals each to lead host Saddleback (8-3, 3-0). Steve Chaplin had 11 saves.
Orange Coast 9, Cypress 6--Cypress (8-4, 1-2) led, 3-2, in the first quarter when Orange Coast went on a 4-0 run. Arturo Sanchez’s two goals spurred the outburst and Orange Coast held on. Dave Eagan also scored two for Orange Coast (9-2, 3-0) and Brian Oylear had 16 saves. Craig Garcia had three goals for Cypress and goalie Pat Ruzgerian had 12 saves.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Cypress 1, San Diego City 1--Cypress (1-5-2) tied it on Kevin McLean’s goal five minutes into the second half. San Diego (0-3-1) is the only team that Cypress has defeated this season.
At the San Diego Mesa volleyball tournament:
In a two-game per match tournament, Cerritos defeated Orange Coast in the last match of pool play, 15-10, 15-10. Orange Coast finished 1-7 in pool play. The Pirates’ lone victory was against Palomar in a split, 10-15, 15-13.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s cross-country:
Saddleback defeated Fullerton, 25-31, in a tri-meet at Saddleback. Cypress forfeited to Fullerton and Saddleback for not having the required six runners.
Kirsty Stramler of Cypress was first with a time of 20 minutes, 38 seconds, on the three-mile course. Corina Weiler (20:50) of Saddleback was second, Jodi Rheaume (21:46) of Fullerton third, Sara Conant (22:27) of Saddleback fourth and Debbie Baraza (22:29) of Saddleback fifth.
