Top Quarter Horses Square Off in $500,000 Race at Los Alamitos
Ten of the nation’s top 2-year-old quarter horses face off in tonight’s $500,000 Dash for Cash Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course. The 400-yard race is California’s richest event for juvenile quarter horses.
The winner will receive more than $185,000. The sprint highlights a 12-race program that begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Robert Gentry-owned entry of Flomont and Westoff will face recent Denim N Diamonds Futurity winner Mighty Easy Pass and Kindergarten Futurity champion Ourautograph in tonight’s headliner.
Flomont, the daughter of Dash for Cash, had the top qualifying time two weeks ago in trials (19.86 seconds).
Flomont won her first two career starts by two lengths apiece and was touted as the best 2-year-old in the powerful Gentry Stable. Her second victory was in the Lubbock Spring Futurity in Texas.
Here is how the field will line up from the rail out along with the jockeys: Shirleys Stardust, Steve Fuller; Dashin Dee Dee, Steve Treasure; Ooh A Sensation, Eddie Garcia; Flomont, James Lackey; Cash Signature, Roman Figueroa; Mighty Easy Pass, Juna Limon; Ourautograph, Kip Didericksen; Westhoff, John Creager; Way Maker, Danny Cardoza; and Especially for Cash, Henry Garcia. Each horse will carry 122 pounds.
