Trabuco Hills Hurries Past Simi Valley for 37-13 Victory
By employing a hurry-up offense to near perfection, quarterback Tim Manning passed for 366 yards and one touchdown and ran for two more scores Friday night to lead Trabuco Hills High School to a 37-13 victory in a nonleague game at Simi Valley.
Manning completed 20 of 28 passes to seven receivers. Julian Ford caught seven for 100 yards and Rick Sparks caught five for 109 yards.
Trabuco Hills (3-1) jumped to a 14-0 lead after Manning scored on a 23-yard run and connected with Sparks on a six-yard scoring pass.
Simi Valley closed to 14-7 as time expired in the first quarter, but Trabuco Hills scored 23 unanswered points.
Trabuco Hills took a 21-7 lead when Manning, a 6-foot senior, scored on a two-yard run with 7:10 left in the half.
On Simi Valley’s next possession, Manning intercepted a fourth-down pass by quarterback Aaron Fisher. The Mustangs took a 24-7 lead on Brent Roper’s 33-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Trabuco Hills rolled up 444 yards in total offense and held Simi Valley to 296.
Simi Valley running back Eric Hale rushed for 156 yards and one touchdown in 19 carries. Receiver Kip Wilson caught two passes for 101 yards, including a 70-yard first-quarter score from Fisher.
The defeat was the 14th in a row for Simi Valley (0-4).
