Applause for Braude Decision

How good it was to read (Sept. 23) that City Councilman Marvin Braude has decided to support the Reseda Boulevard extension to Mulholland Drive.

This act re-establishes my faith in politicians. Councilman Braude acted in the best interests of the public in opening access to our park areas, in insuring fire protection, in fairly dividing traffic burdens so that Tarzana will carry its own load of commuter traffic and not put the full burden on Encino, and in saving tax dollars by requiring the developer to pay for the road.

Now Councilman Braude needs to concentrate on paving Mulholland so that traffic relief becomes a reality. The arguments of the environmental activists will fall on deaf ears now that their cry about development in the mountains and garbage dumps are no longer valid. Most of the land around the unpaved portions of Mulholland belong to the state or Los Angeles so that private development is unlikely. The cry of garbage dumps is a red herring and, according to Councilman Braude, “a political impossibility.”
