The future of the Gay Pride Festival in Orange County remained in doubt after a fist-swinging brawl between militant gay activists and fundamentalist Christians resulting in the arrest of six people over the weekend. Organizers of the two-day event said they were determined to hold it again, despite the violence. But others, such as Santa Ana City Councilman John Acosta, said they will oppose another festival. The City Council, which has been besieged by groups opposing the event, next week will vote on a proposed ordinance banning future gatherings that charge admission or fence in any area of the park. Council support for the proposal has been split in the past. It is unclear how the weekend melee will affect the vote.
