Controversy Over Supreme Court’s Abortion Decision
Not since Lyndon Johnson looked the American people in the eye back in 1964 and told us that he was taking us to war in Vietnam to defend democracy has there been such a disastrous governmental decision as the Supreme Court ruling in Webster.
Once again the leaders of this country are making war on a group of people who fail to share the same social and moral values as they do, and as usual it’s the poor and the powerless who will suffer most.
What’s particularly aggravating to me is how America can continue to claim to be the leader of the “free” world, despite the fact that almost every other civilized nation in the world allows its citizens to make their own decisions about such private matters. This whole abortion situation reminds me of the final words of the hero of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness”--”The horror, the horror.”
