L.A. Man Arrested in Gang-Related Slaying
Glendale police Friday arrested a man suspected of taking part in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old youth in a gang-related, drive-by shooting in Glendale last month.
Jose Onfre Carrillo, 23, was arrested at 8:30 a.m. at a Levitz furniture store in Los Angeles, where he worked, Glendale police spokesman Dean Durand said. Durand said Carrillo lives in Los Angeles.
The victim was shot as he walked east on Chevy Chase Drive near San Fernando Road with two friends about 2:40 p.m. April 26. Police said the group was reportedly leaving Chevy Chase Park in Los Angeles, where they had been involved in a gang-related fight. The victim died about an hour after the shooting at Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center.
Police suspect that Carrillo was one of several people in a 1968 blue Chevrolet Impala from which shots were fired. Police would not say how many other people were in the car or who fired the shots that killed the victim. The car was impounded by police Friday.
Carrillo was being held without bail at Glendale City Jail. The investigation is continuing.
