High School Roundup : EAST VALLEY LEAGUE
Sylmar 2, Poly 1--The Spartans clinched a share of their first league title since 1983 at the expense of the two-time defending champions at Poly.
Sylmar left-hander Tom Ball (7-0), making his first appearance since being taken out in the fifth inning last week against Reseda, pitched his fourth complete game.
Sylmar (17-3, 14-2) took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jose Gallegos walked, advanced to third on a pair of ground outs and scored when Joe Contreraz singled to shallow center.
Gallegos walked with the bases loaded in the fourth to force home Nino Romo with the deciding run.
