Two for the Summer

Rare Hollywood commodities: Two black-themed feature films--both with black directors--are planned for summer production.

“To Sleep with Anger,” a contemporary drama of a middle-class family in South Central L.A., was written and will be directed by Charles Burnett (“My Brother’s Wedding”) for Edward Pressman Productions, with Caldicott Chubb and Danny Glover producing. Glover also appears in the film as an old family friend who arrives unannounced and winds up providing some outside perspective to such problems as sibling rivalry and parental rejection. A June start is scheduled.

In July, Britain’s Palace Productions plan a Chicago shoot for “A Rage in Harlem,” to be directed by Bill Duke (TV’s “A Raisin in the Sun”). It centers on a young man who becomes involved with a counterfeiting ring, getting in over his head.
