IN BRIEF : Pakistanis Skip Match With Israel

DORTMUND, West Germany —  Israeli sports officials today called for disciplinary action against a Pakistani team after it failed to show up for a match between the teams at the World Table Tennis Championships.

Pakistan was scheduled to play Israel in a second-round match but did not show up in time, according to organizers of the championship. Pakistan forfeited the match.

A Pakistani sports official said players had misread the time schedule.

But Shlomo Kedar, president of the Israel Table Tennis Assn., said he believed the team’s absence was deliberate.

“Something must finally be done against our discrimination,” Kedar said.

Organizers said Kedar presented a letter to ITTF President Ichgiro Ogimura of Japan asking for a decision to end discrimination and called for disciplinary measures against countries that refuse to play Israel.
