IN BRIEF : 2 Georgia Tech Linemen Suspended
ATLANTA — Two Georgia Tech football players involved in a restaurant brawl have been suspended from school for spring quarter and will miss spring practice, Coach Bobby Ross said.
But he said reserve linemen Mike Mooney and Jim Lavin could be eligible to play in the fall if they meet summer school requirements. Mooney has indicated he may not return.
The two were suspended after violating conditions of probation issued after the January brawl. A third player involved, reserve linebacker Kevin Salisbury, is expected to take part in spring drills.
Lisa Steffee, a Georgia Tech coed, suffered a broken nose in the incident at a restaurant near the campus. Mooney, 19, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer and was fined $975. Lavin, 20, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was fined $650.
Salisbury, 21, is charged with three counts of battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property and awaits grand jury action.
