Attorneys for Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom concluded their case in a U.S. District Court at Chicago after a witness said he advised the sports agents they did nothing illegal by signing football players as clients while they still had college eligibility.

Michael Feldberg, a former federal prosecutor in New York and a partner in the firm of Shea & Gould, said he acted as legal counsel for Walters’ and Bloom’s business, World Sports & Entertainment Inc.

“I said in substance that the conduct may well have violated the rules of the NCAA, but I was unaware of any (criminal) statutes it may have violated,” Feldberg testified.

Walters, 58, and Bloom, 29, are charged with multiple counts of racketeering and fraud. They are accused of defrauding six universities of scholarship money by paying football players thousands of dollars in violation of NCAA rules.
