Laborer Is Slain in Valley Center Grove
A 44-year-old Valley Center man was shot and killed in an avocado grove Wednesday night, police said.
Police said that Manuel Garnica Troncoso, 44, a laborer, went to the grove in the 32500 block of Couser Canyon Road in Valley Center with a female companion about 9 p.m. to pick up his car.
The unidentified woman told deputies that she heard a shot from some distance away, and, when she walked over to Troncoso, she saw that he had been wounded. She called paramedics, but Troncoso died en route to Palomar Medical Center, authorities said.
Homicide detectives know no motive and have no suspects.
