PREP BASKETBALL : Boys’ Roundup : Laguna Hills Tops Los Amigos, 102-76
Chris Sheff scored 27 points and Beau Hossler added 24 to lead Laguna Hills High School to a 102-76 victory over Los Amigos in a boys’ nonleague basketball game Thursday at Laguna Hills.
Carlos Palomino, a guard for Los Amigos, scored 42 points, including 12 of 15 free throws. The Los Amigos single-game record is 47 points by Clayton Olivier, who is now the Los Amigos freshman boys’ coach.
Laguna Hills led, 23-14, at the end of the first quarter and 51-34 at the half.
Todd Peterson scored 13 points, Trent DeVreugd had 12 points and 9 rebounds and Billy Schellenber scored 10 points and had 6 rebounds for Laguna Hills (6-3).
Los Amigos is 3-6.
In other nonleague basketball:
Anaheim 57, Loara 46--Jude Barbito scored 26 points, including 14 of 17 from the free throw line, to lead Anaheim (3-4). Barbito, a senior guard, has made 31 of 34 free throws in his last 2 games. Joe Gaudio had 14 for Loara (2-6). Victor Zambrano added 11 for Anaheim.
Estancia 79, Woodbridge 59--Forward Mike Curtis scored 32 points, including 6 3-pointers, to lead host Estancia (8-0). Guty Heredia and Tim Kjar scored 11 each and Andy Scholes 10 also for Estancia.
Millikan 56, Marina 49--Cherokee Parks scored 17 points, but Marina fell because of a poor third quarter. Marina led, 29-28, at the half but was outscored, 15-5, in the third quarter.
Corona del Mar 68, Costa Mesa 26--Matt Harrington scored 17 points to lead host Corona del Mar (5-3), which shot 62% (31 of 50) from the field.
In the San Diego tournament:
Los Alamitos 61, Helix 60--Mike Wilson made 2 baskets in the last minute to lift Los Alamitos in the consolation championship game at Patrick Henry High School.
He made the game-winner with 30 seconds remaining. After Wilson scored Anthony Napolitano stole the inbound pass and Los Alamitos (3-7) ran out the clock. Los Alamitos outscored Helix, 19-12, in the final quarter.
Todd Chesebro and Robert Conlisk each scored 12 points for Los Alamitos.
In the Hawaiian Kamehameha Invitational:
Irvine 91, Molokai 41--John Molle scored 20 points to lead five Irvine players in double figures. The Irvine team had spent the day sight-seeing and arrived only 15 minutes before game time. Raphael Moller scored 14, Bryan Allread 12, and Todd Trout and Mike Littler 11 each for Irvine (8-1). Irvine led, 36-26, at half but outscored Molokai, 24-4, in the third quarter.
Irvine plays Downey Warren tonight in the consolation championship game. Irvine lost to Radford, 69-63, in the opening round late Wednesday.
