Local News in Brief : Calabasas Man Killed in House Fire Identified
A 50-year-old Calabasas man who died in a house fire was identified Thursday as Ely Barovich.
Barovich died of smoke inhalation during the blaze, which started at 8 p.m. Wednesday at his home in the 5400 block of Parkmor Road, said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Stephen Alexander. Barovich’s 13-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter were in the house at the time but were not injured, he said.
A passer-by found the boy standing in the driveway as fire raged through the 2-story house, Alexander said. Neighbors rescued the girl, who was still inside, before firefighters arrived, he said.
The blaze was extinguished in less than 30 minutes, Alexander said.
County Sheriff’s Department arson investigators have not determined how the fire started. Damage to the house and its contents was estimated at $100,000.
