About 120 San Diego artists have donated artworks for the San Diego Art Institute’s auction to aid fellow artist Walter Wojtyla at Thursday’s 6-9 p.m. auction in the gallery of the Balboa Park institute. Wojtyla, 55, is suffering from complications of a September heart transplant. Paintings and sculptures, including pieces by Wojtyla and such local artists as Italo Scanga, Peter Mitten and Ed Pieters will be on view from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. At today’s viewing, buyers can get an early start in a silent auction, writing their bids for specific artworks. There will be verbal bidding Thursday night for a limited number of pieces in the exhibit.
