Mustangs Spikers Reach CIF Final
It’s on to the 5-A CIF championship for the Mira Costa girls volleyball team.
The Mustangs earned the trip to play Laguna Beach or Irvine on Saturday at Marina High with a victory over Santa Barbara on Thursday at Redondo High. After dropping the first set, 11-15, Mira Costa rebounded with 15-12, 15-12, 15-2 wins.
“My kids in the first game made a lot of mistakes and we just couldn’t get the ball in play,” said Mira Costa Coach DeaLea Aldrich. “But the kids met the challenge.”
Mira Costa (23-0) trailed, 7-1, in the second set, tied it at 12-12 and won when Heidi Eick served three straight points. In the third set, the Mustangs erased a 12-8 deficit by scoring the last seven points.
