Caltech Is Awarded $250,000 Grant
The Seaver Institute of Los Angeles has given Caltech $250,000 for research on autoimmune diseases that will be conducted in the biology laboratory of Leroy Hood.
The diseases, which include multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and myasthenia gravis , occur when the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. Hood said researchers are attempting to identify causes and to produce antibodies for the diseases.
The Seaver Institute, founded in 1955, gave its first grant of $100,000 for the research last year, followed by $125,000 that was given last month.
