Arcadia : Council Picks Garbage Firm
The City Council last week voted unanimously to negotiate with Best Disposal on a residential garbage pickup contract.
During negotiations with Best, the city will consider automating garbage pickup and starting a recycling program, said Assistant City Manager Alex McIntyre.
Best Disposal, which has held garbage pickup contracts with the city for more than 14 years, was selected over three other bidders.
“Best has done a good job for us, and I haven’t seen a good reason we should change,” said Mayor Robert Harbicht.
The 5-year contract is estimated to cost between $10 million and $15 million.
A tentative contract is expected to be presented to the council for approval before December, said McIntyre. The current contract with Best expires March 1, 1989.
