Tyson Speaks Out Against Givens
Mike Tyson, heavyweight boxing champion, said being with actress Robin Givens was like “living with the Ku Klux Klan,” and that she and her mother “want so much to be white,” according to a report published Sunday.
“They (Givens and mother Ruth Roper) don’t like black people,” Tyson told the Chicago Sun-Times. “They use them. But they don’t like or respect black people.”
Tyson made the remarks during a “rambling” hourlong interview Friday in promoter Don King’s home in Windsor, Ohio. Tyson, 22, is involved in a divorce action with Givens, his wife of 9 months, and also is seeking to have the marriage annulled.
Tyson is scheduled to defend the heavyweight title against Frank Bruno of Britain on Jan. 14, instead of Dec. 17, at a site to be determined, Bill Cayton, Tyson’s manager said Sunday.
Cayton said Bruno will try to keep the fight in London, but the trainer said Tyson does not want to leave the United States for 3 months because of his legal difficulties.
Givens’ lawyer, Raoul Felder, said his client had probably not seen Sunday’s story but said: “There’s no question these charges are untrue, but there’s no one that can get him to stop talking about what’s in her head.”
